The N.A.A.O. general membership meeting was held on Thursday, January 26, 2017 in
conjunction with the Nebraska Aviation Symposium in Kearney, Nebraska.
Vice President Sandi Decker (FBY) call the meeting to order at 3:36 p. m. and thanked the group
Approval of the previous meeting minutes was moved by Hamilton and seconded by Placek
(AIA). On roll call, all voted aye. None opposed. Motion carried.
Approval of the Treasurers Report was moved by Smith (BIE) and seconded by Placek (AIA). On
roll call, all voted aye. None opposed. Motion carried.
Election of officers for 2017 was discussed. Motion by Tom Trumble (OA) to re-elect the
current officers (Shipporeit, Decker, Large). Seconded by Smith (BIE). Motion carried.
Mark Schenkelberg, FAA Central Region Planning Team Lead, reported on FAA appropriations,
fund availability, and AIP reauthorization.
Ronnie Mitchell and Andre' Aman, NDA, reported on LB339, a bill proposed to merge the
Nebraska Department of Aviation with the Nebraska Department of Roads, creating the
Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Nebraska Department of Roads Director Kyle Schneweis discussed the intent and benefits of
the merger. He responded to many questions concerning aviation funding, continuing levels of
customer service, potential minimization of the Department presence, unintended
consequences of the merger and his goals for the new organization.
During roundtable there was substantial discussion concerning NAAO's position on the
proposed legislation, with passionate arguments on both sides.
Vice President Decker adjourned the meeting at 5:00 p. m.
